Authentix Extends Swaziland Fuel Marking Contract

Authentix, Inc.®, today announced that the African nation of Swaziland has extended its fuel authentication contract with Authentix through 2009. The Authentix program has helped Swaziland increase the sale of legal tax paid fuel by more than 20% and has resulted in a corresponding drop in the number of commercial and retail sites illegally selling smuggled fuel.

Swaziland originally implemented the Authentix program in 2004 to combat wide scale tax revenue losses associated with the sale of fuel that had been smuggled into the country.

Authentix fuel markers are added to all legitimate fuel sold in Swaziland. A quick and effective test that utilizes proprietary devices is used to detect these fuel markers. The presence of markers proves the fuel is legitimate and the absence of markers mean the fuel is illegal. The test can also determine if legitimate and smuggled fuel have been mixed.
