Los Angeles, USA -
January, 2005
In an article enititled "Safe and Secure" (publshed in Pharmaceutical & Medical Packaging News in January 2005), editors look at the counterfeiting and diversion issues facing the pharmaceutical industry. Estimates of pharma counterfeiting are placed at over 50% in some countries and 3-7% in the US and growing.
Due to an increase of sophistication of today's counterfeiters, companies are seeking more advanced security solutions to deter product counterfeits and product diversion. "Through the use of RFID tags, tamper-evident and compliance packaging, or covert and overt security solutions, manufacturers are making security an integral part of their packaging."
Authentix VP of Pharmaceuticals, Jim Rittenburg, is quoted in the article outlining the range of available security features from Authentix. "In addition to polychromatic inks and trace-chemical detection, we have started to use materials that allow spectral fingerprints to be detected on the packaging."
Also, Rittenburg highlights the program, "Mark, Monitor, & Measure." a joint offering between Authentix and Universal Solutions, Inc. aimed at managing risks associated with counterfeits and diversion throughout the global supply chain. This first-of-its-kind integrated system is provided by the respective leaders in their field.
