Authentix CEO Named to Texas Nanotechnology Initiative Board of Directors
Dallas -  May, 2006
AUSTIN, Texas, April 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Texas Nanotechnology Initiative (TNI), a leading organization dedicated to establishing Texas as a world leader in the development and commercialization of nanotechnology, elected David Moxam and Joel Serface to the Board of Directors. Now in its fifth year, TNI is a state-wide consortium of Texas-based universities, industry leaders, investors, and government officials focused on bringing top nanotechnology companies, researchers, funding, business, and education entities together to develop the infrastructure necessary to turn Texas into an international player on the nanotechnology stage. Kelly Kordzik serves as TNI President and chair of the Nanotechnology Practice Group at Texas law firm Winstead Sechrest & Minick P.C.

Moxam is President and CEO of Authentix, Inc., based in Addison, Texas. He is a 15-year veteran of the advanced technology industry who served for 10 years as a senior executive with global professional services firm EDS, and was CEO at Starpoint, a Goldman Sachs technology innovator in the early 2000s. Authentix provides nanotechnology-based applications for the prevention of product counterfeiting, brand adulteration and product diversion. The company is considered the global leader in authentication and provides brand protection solutions for the oil and gas, pharmaceutical, spirits, and agrochemical industries, as well as fiscal tax recovery services for governments worldwide. Authentix is recognized as one of the first profitable nanotechnology companies in America.

Serface, considered one of the early venture investors into nanotechnology, invests into the convergence of nanotechnology, life sciences, energy, environmental, and information technologies. He was previously a partner at Eastman Ventures, the strategic investing arm of Eastman Chemical Company, where he pioneered the concept of convergent technology investing. Prior to Eastman Ventures, Serface was a director at Sierra Ventures where he created its later stage investing program. Through his involvement with the Blue Ribbon Task Force on Nanotechnology, Serface spent extensive time with each of the University of California campuses as well as Caltech and Stanford, helping them identify ways to improve their nanotechnology commercialization practices.

"In order to make Texas a leading nanotechnology center, I believe it is important to get the global corporate and venture capital communities involved. By joining the TNI Board, I bring my rolodex of leading global VCs and intend to find ways to collaborate smart investors with the innovations being generated in Texas," said Serface. Adds Moxam, "TNI continues to make great strides in driving economic support toward nanotechnology commercialization and I share the board's passion for making Texas a leading nanotechnology center."

"These two new board members will bring added energy, expertise and views to TNI," said Kordzik. "Joel and David are high energy professionals with their own visions on where Texas needs to be in the nanotechnology revolution, and they will be valuable assets to our organization."

Kordzik says that one of TNI's major focus areas right now is planning and preparing for nanoTX '06 (http://www.nanotx.biz ), an international nanotechnology conference coming to Dallas Sept 27-28, 2006. "We are building momentum in this effort and we are excited about the high caliber of exhibitors, presenters and participants who have already signed up for nanoTX '06," said Kordzik. "It's not just a Texas event, it's international. We have over 150 top scientists and leading business minds in technology converging to discuss the nanotechnology race. Over 30 countries will be represented at this event."
